A Service Halloween in Friedrichsdorf

Janet photo bombs a picture of Sister Newman painting a kitchen wall "lila." Yep, it's lavender.

We spent Halloween in Friedrichsdorf with the Fingerles helping them get their apartment ready for moving in. They have a lot of work to do, and it clearly helped for them to have 4 extra pairs of hands. I helped paint in a hallway and in the kitchen. I also built a piece of furniture that they had purchased from Ikea. Elder Newman helped Elder Fingerle take apart a cabinet, clean it up, and put it back together in another room. I also helped Werner hang a new light fixture in their living room. Sister Newman painted a couple of walls in the kitchen "lilac," and Janet cleaned windows and doors (big task that made a huge difference -- the previous tenant was an old lady who suffers from Lupus and could not clean much).

Their apartment is large, but it is on the top floor of the house. But the climb is worth it. They have a lovely view of the village of Dillingen and the hills to the northwest. They also overlook a large green space, and to the west is the spire of the temple. They are less than a 5 minute walk from the temple. A large veranda is cut out of the room on the west side, so they can sit outside and enjoy the view. I took a couple of pictures, but they really don’t do it justice.

Anna made a dinner and fed us all, and it was delicious. They are wonderful people, full of faith and general good cheer. Werner is funny in a German sort of way — that means he is mostly serious, but he has wit and is filled with kindness and gratitude. We love them, and we were grateful for a day of service to this dedicated brother and sister.
From the Fingerle's balcony -- Moroni amid the cranes. The old woman who lived in the apartment before them said that she liked to look out her window at "that angel."
